Effecting change, affecting lives: the case of schizophrenia patients

(April 5, 2013)

The new issue of the specialized magazine "Journal For Patient Compliance" (JPC), includes an article of our company's members titled:"Effecting change, affecting lives: the case of schizophrenia patients".

Zoe Tziakou, Operations Manager and Constantina Georgaki, Clinical Psychologist of PCC HELLAS, wrote for the current issue of JPC, an article focusing on patients with psychosis such as schizophrenia. Such patients often suffer from poor life quality, deteriorated functional capacity as well as the burden of social stigma and other socioeconomic pressure. Even though pharmacological treatment may provide psychotic patients relief from disturbing symptoms and enable them to gain greater control over and satisfaction with their lives, a huge percentage of them fails to comply with it during part or all of the process. This failure most often leads to re-appearance of symptoms and re-hospitalization, creating a great deal of turmoil for patients and their families.

The article presents findings from the adherence support program we designed for patients with schizophrenia as well as successful interventions for increasing patient adherence in mental illness cases.
